Acrylic acid (propenoic acid) is a strong organic acid. At room temperature it is a colourless liquid with a pungent odour. It is a starting material in the production of polymers and is used in the manufacture of plastics, coatings, adhesives, paints and varnishes. It is a raw material for woven fibres and is used in the paper industry, as well as being a primary raw material in the making of optical instruments and jewellery.
