A collector that enhances flotation separation in the recovery of iron and other metals and in certain ore types including gold and pyrite. It is also used as an anti-shrinkage agent in concrete, reducing surface tension and minimising shrinkage/cracking as water evaporates. It is likewise a building block for asphalt modification additives and for the production of imidazoline-based corrosion inhibitors.
